PROJECT INFORMATION

Launched in 2019, the PEARL Project aligns with the Dbegotin Education Equality Program (EEP), focusing on inspiring and empowering young girls. This initiative challenges limiting cultural norms, and gender-based stereotypes, fosters self-confidence, and promotes school enrollment, retention, and smooth transitions for girls in rural communities.

WHY WE DO IT

Across Nigeria, especially in rural communities, young girls often face certain cultural norms, practices, and gender-based stereotypes that hinder their educational journey. The PEARL Project responds to this challenge by inspiring and empowering girls, fostering self-confidence, and breaking down barriers to education. By challenging stereotypes, we aim to create an environment where girls feel encouraged to enroll, stay in school, and smoothly transition through their educational milestones.

HOW WE CARRY IT OUT

The PEARL Project adopts a holistic approach to address gender-based challenges. We conduct empowerment workshops, mentorship and counselling programs, as well as advocacy and awareness campaigns to challenge stereotypes. By collaborating with local communities, schools, and influencers, we create an inclusive environment that supports the educational journey of young girls. Additionally, we provide resources and support to ensure a smooth transition for girls in rural communities.

Our Objectives

  • Inspire and empower young girls by challenging gender-based stereotypes
  • Foster self-confidence and resilience among girls in rural communities
  • Promote school enrollment, retention, and smooth transitions for girls

IMPACT (RESULT)

  • Conducted empowerment workshops reaching 500 girls, resulting in increased self-confidence and motivation
  • Established counselling and mentorship programs connecting girls with successful female role models
  • Raised awareness through campaigns, contributing to a 60% increase in school enrollment and retention among girls in targeted communities
